Welcome Home!

This coming Tuesday, my fiancée and I will take possession of our new home! After searching for the better part of a year, we finally found our dream apartment in the Old Town area of Chicago. In many ways, I was our own worst enemy because of what I do for a living. I stalked Redfin every morning to see what new listings had popped up over night, and finally, our dream home came on the market!

When we started our search, we thought we wanted new construction. But every time we walked into a cookie-cutter apartment, we realized what we really wanted was charm! So we said goodbye to large walk-in closets, double-bowl vanities in the master, garage parking. What we are getting instead is crown mouldings, hardwood floors throughout, a unique layout, and a fantastic location!

We plan to do some work right before we live in, but in a matter of weeks, this is where ET will be calling home!

I've always been fascinated by how people live and what they call home. I work as an interior designer in Chicago for a custom residential builder where I help our homeowners design their dream home- I show them what they need, and I give them my opinion on everything down the last cabinet knob. But to be perfectly honest, I'm a little scared to begin designing my own home!

I am beginning this blog now- new home, fresh start- to chronicle my thoughts and decisions on how I will design my apartment. This blog might go in other directions at some point, but it will always be a place where I share things that I love... and maybe some things that I don't love as much!

Home is about who you are, what you like, what you want to be surrounded by. As I begin to find what it is that I call home, I  hope you find some inspiration in my journey!
