Fabric Friday

It was a striped velvet type of week!

I recently reupholstered two chairs for a client in a striped velvet (pictures to come when done). I was telling a fellow designer friend all about it, and she mentioned that she was all about striped velvet. She shared with me the Toro FR stripe from the Kabuki collection at Villa Romo.

I'm in love!

I love that this can be used in both formal and informal settings. I would totally upholster the back of dining room chairs out of this fabric!

I'm really liking the green and purple combo! What color wave do you love?

Pagoda Lamp

I am really into Chinoiserie right now, and all I want for my bedroom are Pagoda lamps flanking my bed.

I love this one from World's Away. It comes in so many colors that I am not sure which one to pick!

What color would you do? And where would you place it?

Fabric Friday

I am all about wallpaper this week- more specifically, bold wallpaper!

I am loving Osborne and Little's Minaret wallpaper. I recently went on a house tour on the North Shore of Chicago (more to come of that next week), and I was inspired by a powder room that I saw. Such a bold (and sometimes dark pattern  like Minaret) in a room creates drama and beauty. I believe that it is okay to go all out in a Powder Room. Not that your guests will be spending a lot of time in there, but it's a great way to make a huge impact in a short amount of time. Believe me, they will remember that Powder Room!

Here are some other photos of Minaret found in other rooms of the house. While I wouldn't be opposed to using it elsewhere in a home, I still love it in a Powder Room.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fabric Friday!

I am starting a new series today. Every Friday, I am going to select a fabric that best describes my week.

First up, Manuel Canovas' 'Penelope'.

" All my life I have liked big motifs. They feel more elegant, more generous."
-Manuel Canovas

With the first signs of fall popping it's head here in Chicago, I am in a bit of denial that summer is actually over.  To prolong summer as much as I can, I am pretending that I do not notice the chill in the air which is why I have decided to showcase Manuel Canovas this week. Nothing screams summer to me more than Manuel Canovas. It could be the Canovas print bathing suit I purchased years ago that remind me of summer, or just the simply beautiful floral fabrics he designs.

I love the 'Penelope' fabric for it's bold color and large scale. This is a fabric that I could see used in a powder room, little girl's room, or dining room. It could be used in either a contemporary or traditional home. And I love that while the light pink color reminds me of summer, the deep pink and red color brings me into fall.

How would use 'Penelope' in your home?

Happy Fabric Friday!

Natural Curiosities

I was in Nantucket over the summer, and I instantaneously fell in love with the store Trillium within seconds of stepping inside!

What caught my eye was a line of art that they carry by Natural Curiosities. Immediately to the right when you enter the store, there are several large collages of sea urchins and sand dollars.

My friends and I loved these so much that we are making smaller versions as a little arts and crafts project. (Photos to come soon!)

When I got home, I did more research on  Natural Curiosities and found that I love pretty much all of their work. I have even suggested a few pieces to a client that I hope we use!

Here is a sample of some of their work.

Enjoy!

I need a desk chair!

Now that I am working from home, I've realized that my current desk chair isn't cutting it anymore. I need something more comfortable but I really do not want an ergonomic desk chair. Yes, those chairs can be great- I used to have one and loved it. But my office doubles as a guest room, so I am going to have to sacrifice a little comfort here (but just a little) in order to get something unique!

I've been doing a lot of looking around to find the perfect chair, and I have come up with this criteria:

  1. Needs to have a great design
  2. Could be in a fun color or neat fabric
  3. Be unique
  4. Needs to do it's job- my husband won't like it if I have to keep getting massages to fix my back!

What do you guys think of these?

All of these look great, but before I make a final decision, I will need to go sit in each of them.

Which one do you like?
